Domino is a game that requires skill to play well. The tiles are normally twice as long as they are wide and have a line in the middle to divide them visually into two squares with values (often called pips) on each end. Each domino has a number of spots from six to none or blank. The pips on a domino determine its value and the total number of spots on each side is referred to as its rank. A tile with more pips is heavier or higher ranked than one with fewer pips.
Hevesh started building domino displays when she was about 10. Her YouTube channel, Hevesh5, has over 2 million subscribers and she’s created intricate domino setups for movies, TV shows, and events such as an album launch for Katy Perry. Hevesh creates her domino setups by constructing flat arrangements and then connecting them using lines of dominoes. She tests each section of her installations, filming them in slow motion to make precise corrections when needed. The biggest dominoes in her designs take several nail-biting minutes to fall.
In fiction, domino refers to the way in which one scene leads naturally into another, as if by domino effect. A writer must ensure that the dominoes in a story are spaced correctly or the entire chain reaction may not work. Too many dominoes in a scene can slow the pace of the story or cause it to feel overly long. Likewise, too few dominoes in a scene can leave the reader feeling unsatisfied or confused.
The term also applies to the overall flow of a novel, where each scene should be placed carefully so that it influences the next scene and, ultimately, the overall story. This is a concept that is often misunderstood by novice authors, who may try to force scenes into their novels that don’t fit or feel jarring or out of place. A novel needs scenes that advance the plot, but these scenes should be balanced so that they don’t become overly long or too short.
A domino’s rank can be determined by its pips, but it can also be assigned a numeric ranking that reflects the overall size and weight of the piece. Depending on the type of domino, its rank can vary from zero to ten. The number of pips on a domino is often used to identify its rank, although this is not always the case, particularly with modern sets of European-style dominoes.
A mutant who can alter the laws of probability to shift odds in her favor and is a weapons expert, martial artist, and linguist, Domino is a fearsome warrior. She was a member of the mercenary team known as Six Pack and, for a time, fought alongside Cable and his X-Force team. She has been targeted by the emotion-manipulating psychopath Psycho-Man and his agent Copycat, who impersonated her for a year during her captivity. Domino has also served as a bodyguard for Milo Thurman and worked at the Hong Kong branch of X-Corporation.
