Hong Kong Pools

As the summer heats up and blazing sun, insufferable humidity and torrential rain start to take their toll on us, we know that the only way to cool down is with a refreshing swim. Luckily, Hong Kong has plenty of public pools to choose from.

For a unique experience, head to the pool on the 76th floor of the W Hotel Hong Kong and marvel at the gorgeous city and harbour view. Also known as Wet, this pool is one of the highest in the city and is the perfect spot to relax and soak up some rays. Plus, you can even get a workout in by taking advantage of the Fit Gym facilities.

If you’re in the mood for something a little more indulgent, you can visit The Peninsula Hong Kong’s opulent heated pool. This beautiful pool boasts surroundings and design patterned after historical Roman baths, as well as an incredible view of the Hong Kong skyline. After a refreshing dip in the water, you can relax by the poolside and enjoy some of The Peninsula’s healthy menu options.

Another impressive swimming pool can be found at the Tai Wan Shan Swimming Complex. This large pool has a main pool looking out towards Kowloon and the Hong Kong Island skyline, along with spectator stands that can seat up to 1,200 people. The pool is also home to four waterslides, including two of the fastest in the city. If you’re feeling famished after your swim, head to the nearby Wing Lai Yuen Sichuan Noodles for some authentic Chinese cuisine!

Aside from the spectacular views, this pool also has a few special features. It is the only pool in the world to have a mermaid-shaped underwater glass sculpture and is also home to a scuba diving training centre. It is also known as the ‘Secret Garden of the City’ due to its calming and relaxing environment.

While many Hongkongers will agree that our public pools are some of the best in Asia, there is always room for improvement when it comes to cleanliness and safety. It has been reported that some of the LCSD’s public pools have been closed for having high levels of faeces and vomit in their water, which has led to an increasing number of complaints by swimmers. In the wake of this controversy, the LCSD has begun to hire more cleaners to inspect their swimming pools on a regular basis. Hopefully, these measures will help keep our pools safe and clean for everyone to enjoy!
