Aside from being one of the best activities to do during a holiday, swimming has been shown to reduce stress, improve cardiovascular health and help with weight loss. So, if you’re looking for some fun in the sun (or a nice way to cool down in summer), check out these hongkong pools that are sure to give you a refreshing and energising experience!
The largest and most iconic of hongkong’s public pools, the Kowloon Park Pool is an outdoor complex with seven pools including teaching, diving and leisure pools as well as three water slides. With a main pool that looks out over Tolo Harbour, the pool also has a number of spectator stands that hold 1,200 people along with a toddler’s pool filled with whimsical water installations such as mushroom and tree-shaped fountains.
In a city that uses enough freshwater to fill 500,000 swimming pools a year, the government is working on a plan aimed at reclaiming sewage water as part of an overall strategy aiming to cut down on the amount of freshwater Hong Kong imports. The idea is to save precious drinking water and divert waste from the landfill, which could help relieve pressure on freshwater supplies in a city that has seen its population increase by over two million since 2000.
As Covid-19 has eased, a few more things have been approved to reopen: all 38 government-managed pools are now open for business again (except Wan Chai pool), masks will no longer be required for outdoor exercise and restaurants can seat eight people to a table. However, despite the return of swimming pools, LCSD is still asking that the public avoids beaches and water sports centres.
While public swimming pools may be reopening, if you’d like to make your experience even more luxurious, consider booking a stay at a hotel with a pool. The Wellness Pool at Cordis Hong Kong is not only heated but has fibre optic underwater lights to make your swim a little funkier! Guests can lounge in the nearby cabanas and enjoy some music and drinks at the nearby bar.
Another great pool option is the Kerry Hotel’s rooftop swimming pool in Hung Hom, which offers views that are literally unobstructed. You can rent a day pass to the pool and relax in style with a cocktail and some snacks at Red Sugar, their al fresco terrace bar. If you can, hang out around the pool until sunset for a beautiful scene of Hong Kong’s skyline!
If you’re in Kwun Tong, be sure to visit the Jordan Valley Pool for a great family experience. The outdoor pool has small slides, water guns and animals to climb on, while the indoor pool is pretty cool too with its indoor pirate ship! The pool is closed on Mondays for cleaning. For the full list of reopenings and other information, head to the LCSD website.
